Author Bio Hell
Whatever you do, just don’t make that personal part sad. I’ve read some author bios where at the end I just felt sorry for them. Pity does not make people want to buy your product. If a one or two paragraph bio is a major downer I’m sure as shit not buying their books. Do not ever do the woe is me thing. Your bio should be about positivity/success.

The Weeds of Liberty
Some, certainly, live down to all of the worst stereotypes: they’re hedonists and want liberty so that they can sit around in geodesic domes and work the fewest hours possible to buy food and marijuana. Most, though, want liberty to give them more time and resources to live the good life — to provide for their families, to create art, to plant gardens, to read books, to back artists they enjoy, and to freely associate in communities of their own choosing, whether those are churches, gun clubs, science fiction conventions, or anything else.

A Good Kick in the Pants
People aren’t reading because there’s nothing—or hardly anything—worth reading. The slop on the Internet isn’t worth reading. Your local library is likely a smelly ruin. And your local bookstore would rather sell you coffee than a book. Books made a big difference in my life. I would never have gone to Nepal or Australia or Hawaii or sailed or done half the things I’ve done, if I hadn’t been a voracious reader. Some people join the Army or the Navy to see the world. I did it through books—at least at first; that was the introduction. I think kids need that today too—not just to learn about other places, but to learn about their own country and its history. I meet too many kids today—good, well-meaning kids—who don’t know jack, whose curiosity seems stunted, and who frankly need a kick in the pants to get out there and do something with their lives. So that’s what I decided to do with the American Treasure Hunters series.
